NPFL standings, fixtures and the shape of Nigerian club football
The Nigeria Premier Football League is the top division of the Nigerian league system, and "NPFL standings" is the phrase the whole season is searched by. The table looks simple and is not: matchweeks get moved, results are confirmed late, and the league has more than once been decided by a tie-break rather than a win. Most of the players who eventually appear in a national team call-up pass through it first.
How the NPFL table is scored
Three points for a win, one for a draw, none for a defeat. When clubs finish level on points the league applies its published tie-break order — head-to-head record, then goal difference, then goals scored — which is why the NPFL table can look wrong to anyone reading it like an English league table.
Fixtures, results and the matchweek shuffle
NPFL fixtures are published matchweek by matchweek and move more often than most leagues, for security, pitch or continental-commitment reasons. That is why "NPFL results today and table" is searched so heavily: the table only makes sense once the postponed games are placed back into it.
The clubs that shape the table
Enyimba, Rangers, Kano Pillars, Rivers United, Remo Stars, Plateau United, Lobi Stars and Shooting Stars carry most of the league's history between them, and Enyimba remain the only Nigerian side to have won the CAF Champions League — twice, in 2003 and 2004. What the top and bottom of the table decide
The champions enter the CAF Champions League and the next places lead to the Confederation Cup, which is also reachable by winning the Federation Cup — Nigeria's FA Cup. At the other end, the bottom clubs drop into the Nigeria National League, the second tier, and its own table becomes the promotion race.
